MEET THE FOUNDERS
Sunny
Sonia
Coco Puff
Sunny Tripathy and Sonia Sandha met in difficult times. Sonia was navigating a tough depression and Sunny was almost broke when his six-year attempt at becoming a screenwriter had not panned out.
But, as a couple, they found ways to lift each other up, with most of the credit going to their
Yorkie-Shihtzu ' Coco Puff '.
But when the pandemic hit
Tripathy had numerous health scares, and was consistently hospitalized.
Sometimes without adequate insurance.
Sonia panic researched and discovered inflammation, common in Western Diets, was at the root of almost every disease.
Unsure but desperate, she re-formulated her mom's ghee recipe, a delicious Indian butter alternative and anti-inflammatory. Leading Sunny to recovery and begging the question:
what if we could fight disease, not with medicine, but with food ?
After learning what toxic ingredients were slipping into modern hyper-industrialized foods, Sonia decided to go back to school. Getting her MBA, completing executive programs at Harvard and Cornell, and becoming a certified nutritionist. She then applied to a competitive program at
UPenn and began her journey with a second masters, studying longevity, gerontology, and nutrition science.
In fact, Sunny and Sonia, were so convinced on the healing powers of eating clean, they risked their entire savings into a commercial space and began formulating their own snacks and products, including a proprietary super-ghee.
What began as a mission to help people in their community, grew into a movement that built its own following. And, without any marketing or outside investment, the two built a growing CPG brand that - in its first week online - became an
Amazon #1 New Release.
Sunny and Sonia paid off their student loans, got married and decided to run Mamas together.
Sonia is currently authoring papers at The University of Pennsylvania and is determined to use her position as the CEO of Mamas to improve nutrition epidemiology around the world.
Sunny, a graduate of UCLA, was recently named a Bruin Business 100 Alumn, and on the writing front, went on to sell his screenplays to:
After his first highly-competitive bidding war,
he signed with UTA for representation.
20th Century Fox, Sony, Amazon, Dreamworks, and Disney.
Target's Accelerator.
Sunny & Sonia's strict Indian parents grumbled that they are now - somewhat - proud of them.
In 2023, Mamas was 1/30 to be accepted
out of more than 5000 brands that applied for
